Canadiens lose two players for the rest of the season

The Montreal Canadiens announced a few injury updates on Tuesday following their practice in Brossard.

Firstly on Jake Allen, who suffered a lower-body injury during Saturday night's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Canadiens say that Allen has a groin injury and will miss the remainder of the 2021-22 season. Head coach Martin St. Louis added that it's not the same injury that Allen sustained in January and forced him to miss two months.

The 31-year-old appeared in 35 games this season where he had a 9-20-4 record with a 3.30 GAA, .905 save percentage, and two shutouts.

As for Justin Barron, he is also set to miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury. Fortunately, Barron won't require surgery on his ankle and will be ready to go for training camp in September.

Barron, 20, was traded to the Canadiens on March 21st in a deal that saw the Colorado Avalanche acquire Artturi Lehkonen. In five games with Montreal, Barron put up two points (one goal, one assist), no penalty minutes, and was a minus-two.

Finally, recently signed prospect Emil Heineman has arrived in Montreal, but is undergoing treatment for an upper-body injury that he suffered while playing in Sweden. The 20-year-old's entry-level contract isn't set to begin until next season, but if he is cleared by medical staff in the near future, he'll likely sign a PTO and play for the Laval Rocket during their playoff run.

In 38 games for Leksands IF, Heineman had sixteen points (eleven goals, five assists), twenty penalty minutes, and was a minus-eight.
