Ever since they traded away Nic Deslauriers & Josh Manson, the Anaheim Ducks get pushed around more than they would like. Deslauriers & Manson combined for most of the Ducks' toughness, so while guys like Zegras & Terry "skill it up," they are vulnerable to rough play.

Ryan Getzlaf appears sick of it. Last night after tripping Getzlaf (video to follow), Andrei Svechnikov was the target of the Captain's wrath.

The Ducks are in an interesting position here. There is likely a retooling period on the way as they usher in a new era with veterans like Getzlaf moving on & younger players taking the reigns.

Despite the retool, they are still a very competitive hockey club. Loaded with skill, they are missing a few key components critical to winning in the NHL.

As Teemu Selänne wrote on Twitter:

It is apparent other teams are taking liberties with their young skill players & the refs aren't going to protect them (nor should they).

Getzlaf is set to retire at the end of this season, but you can bet on him sticking around the team in a consulting/development role. This will probably be an area of focus for the Ducks' players & staff going forward.
