An interesting tidbit from Saturday night's game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens. Habs starter Jake Allen was to leave in the first after he seemed to tweak something while on the ice. Backup goaltender Sam Montembeault finished out the opening frame, while it was announced during the intermission that Allen would not be returning.

This brought about an emergency backup goaltender (EBUG) issue for the Canadiens. Someone would have to suit up and sit on the bench in case Montembeault went down. Carey Price, who has not yet played this season, travelled with the team to Toronto. However, TSN's John Lu reports Price was not interested in dressing for the game at this time. Instead, Montreal now has Toronto's EBUG sitting on the bench just in case he is needed. Alex Bishop, who attends the University of Toronto student, is considered a loaner.

While Montreal has stated that Price would like to play before the season ends, it seems he's not willing to risk it just yet. Montreal has 10 games to play in 2021-22 after the one against the Leafs.

Price had knee surgery over the summer after the Habs run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020-21.
