According to one report, the NHL has already reviewed an apparent slash from Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche to an official during a game on Monday. The verdict is no supplemental discipline.

Lots of talk this afternoon regarding this stick incident involving @Avalanche MacKinnon and @NHL official. #NHL hockey operations have investigated it with officials and all concluded zero intent. No further review I'm told will be necessary. - Nick Kypreos, Twitter

One Twitter user slowed down the video a lot, and it does appear that MacKinnon's stick may not even hit the official, but the ice just ahead of him while he was aiming for Tomas Nosek.

Still, there are several others on social media who seem to think the outcome would be a lot different if this involved someone who wasn't a star player. Here's a look at some of the comments:

"If you're considered a star for a franchise you can get away with anything."

"No intent?? Looks very intentional to me....No..... I guess there ISN'T a standard for most, and another standard for a few...."

"All they did was look at who did it and decided they can't suspend the good ol' Canadian star. If he were some 4th liner, he'd be sent to Siberia by now."
