The Montreal Canadiens announced on Saturday that they've acquired goaltender Andrew Hammond from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Brandon Baddock.

Prior to Saturday, the Montreal Canadiens had just two goaltender under NHL contract, with three others, Carey Price, Jake Allen and Michael McNiven all injured. Cayden Primeau hasn't been playing well and needs more time to develop in the American Hockey League.

Getting Hammond from the Wild makes sense from both a depth standpoint, as well as the need for a goalie in case Primeau or Montemeault goes down with an injury. The latter of whom is dealing with a hand issue.

The 34-year-old hasn't appeared in an NHL game this season, but has played in eleven games for Minnesota's AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild. In those eleven games, Hammond has a record of 6-2-3 with a 2.44 G.A.A., a .908 save percentage and three shutouts.

Montreal will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. ET against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
