Canada would open the scoring first on the powerplay late in the first period. Sarah Fillier, who's taken the hockey world by storm at these Olympic Games, made a nice pass to Brianne Jenner, who roofed it past American netminder Maddie Rooney to make it 1-0 Canada.

Poulin was hooked by Cayla Barnes and Canada's captain received a penalty shot. On the penalty shot, Poulin was calm and collected as always, as she put the puck past Maddie Rooney's blocker side to give Canada a 4-2 lead.
