After Pierre Dorion declared this summer that the Ottawa Senators rebuild was complete, he had to go back on that statement after his team started the 2021-22 season with just five wins through their first 21 games.

Despite the previous bold take not working out, however, Dorion made yet another one on Thursday. Appearing on TSN 1200, the Senators' general manager said that he believes his team has most of the pieces for a Cup contending team. It is a pretty wild claim for a team that currently sits 30th in league standings, but Dorion clearly believes in their potential.

In defence of Dorion, this Senators team does have plenty of skilled young talent. Many of their players project to turn into great NHL talents, but to this point that hasn't happened. Perhaps Dorion will be right after all, but given their poor performance this season, they don't appear to most to be Stanley Cup contenders anytime soon.
