To say the 2021-22 season hasn't gone as the New York Islanders had hoped would be a massive understatement.

This summer, they were considered by many to be Stanley Cup favorites. However, they have played well below that level, and are well outside a playoff spot with a record of 16-17-6 through 39 games played. After a 3-0 loss to the lowly Seattle Kraken on Wednesday night, it became clear the frustration is getting to Trotz, who claimed «I'm pissed off,» when asked about his team's performance. He also went on to state that it was one of the most disappointing games he has coached since being with the Islanders.

It is hard to blame Trotz, who has helped this team overachieve the past few seasons. While they are better than they have played this season, the fact of the matter is they lack star talent, and won't be true Cup contenders unless they can add some more offence to their lineup. Perhaps some change will happen in the offseason, as playoffs are a near impossibility at this point.
