The Washington Capitals announced on Wednesday that captain Alexander Ovechkin will miss tonight's game against the Edmonton Oilers due to a positive COVID-19 test. Ovechkin won't be attending this weekend's All-Star Game either the team said.

"Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is unavailable tonight versus the Edmonton Oilers due to the NHL COVID-19 protocol. Based on a positive test result, Ovechkin will not participate in the 2022 NHL All-Star Game in Las Vegas." The Capitals said in a tweet.

Ovechkin, 36, was supposed to captain the Metropolitan Division at this year's All-Star Game, so now the league will have to name a replacement, much like they did with Nathan MacKinnon, who will also not attend this weekend due to injury.

In 46 games this season, the Moscow Russia native has 58 points (29 G, 29 A), six penalty minutes and is a +15.
