As was announced earlier this morning, Kent Hughes was named the 18th general manager in Montreal Canadiens franchise history. According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the timeline from his first interview to being hired this morning was very quick.

"Kent Hughes timeline in Habs GM hire as per sources:
- Interviewed with Habs last Monday.
- Met with Geoff Molson on Saturday night in Boston.
- Took the weekend to make fully sure he was ready to leave change careers.
- Negotiated contract with Habs well into Monday night." LeBrun said in a tweet.

Hughes, 51, was a player agent and managing director for Quartexx Management. His clients included Kristopher Letang, Patrice Bergeron, Drake Batherson, Darnell Nurse, and Anton Khudobin, among others.

An interesting fact about Kent Hughes is that both of his sons Riley and Jack play for Northeastern University. Riley was drafted by the New York Rangers when Jeff Gorton was the general manager there, and Jack is a top prospect for the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, currently ranked seventh among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.

On that Northeastern University team are a pair of Montreal Canadiens prospects that Kent Hughes will know a lot about, Jordan Harris and Jayden Struble.

"Fun facts about #Habs Kent Hughes' ties to Northeastern University in Boston: this year's team includes his sons (Riley — NYR prospect drafted by Jeff Gorton in 2018; Jack — a 2022 draft-eligible prospect) and Montreal D prospects Jordan Harris & Jayden Struble," TSN's John Lu said in a tweet.

The Canadiens will officially introduce Kent Hughes to the media on Wednesday.
