The possibility of Carey Price returning to the NHL this season just took a major hit. During an update Monday on the Montreal Canadiens' injuries, Vice-President of Communications Chantal Machabee told reporters it's not going well for Price.

"Carey Price visited with his doctors and he is essentially starting from scratch in his rehab for his knee. He remains out indefinitely," said reporter Arpon Basu.

Seeing as it's almost February, the possibility of Price playing games in 2021-22 seems all but lost.

Price underwent surgery on his knee over the summer after being a major factor in getting the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning last season. In October, it was announced that he was entering the NHL's Player Assistance program and admitted that the substance use was a big factor behind the decision.

There have been tons of rumours about the 34-year-old possibly getting traded this season as Montreal appears to be in the midst of a reset. That seems very unlikely now given his medical situation.
