After giving up five goals in the third period of a 6-4 loss versus the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, many Edmonton Oilers fans have been calling for the firing of head coach Dave Tippett.

A change wouldn't be a major surprise given the Oilers' recent freefall down the standings, but it doesn't appear likely to happen right now. According to TSN's Ryan Rishaug, general manager Ken Holland and his management and scouts are in California right now at pro scout meetings, and no significant change is imminent. There were some who thought Holland's trip might have something to do with a change coming to the organization. According to Rishaug, that is not the case. This rings true to what Holland said in a press conference last week.

While many will be disappointed with this news, it should be noted that Holland has never before fired a coach midseason, and doesn't appear likely to now. He seems content on allowing his team to figure this thing out, though whether or not they are able to remains to be seen. Given their struggles as of late, playoffs are in serious question for this team right now, a major shocker given their hot start to the season.
