The eyes of the hockey world will be on Sin City in less than three weeks when the NHL hosts the 2022 All-Stars Skills Competition and 3-on-3 tournament at T-Mobile Arena.

During the 32 Thoughts segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet insider Jeff Marek mentioned that the NHL is bringing back the 'Breakaway Challenge' for the first time since 2016.

"A couple of different things. They're a bringing a couple of things back, Ron. One of those things we haven't seen going back to 2016 is the Breakaway Challenge," Marek said.

He added, "So that returns, and this is, perhaps in a lot of ways Ron, a way the NHL can bring in some of the younger stars like Lucas Raymond and perhaps more specifically, Trevor Zegras, who's given the NHL their top highlight of the season with Sonny Milano. So, this event is all about trick shots and props, and the NHL has listened to the players and is working with them."

Marek also shared the list for the Fastest Skater competition, which will include: Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Dylan Larkin, Adrian Kempe, Jordan Kyrou, Chris Kreider, Cale Makar, and Kyle Connor.

Finally, Marek mentioned that the NHL is going back to foam targets for the accuracy shooting competition, doing away with the electronic boards they've been using for the last several years.

"And one final thing, Ron, this is something for the old school hockey fans, we will see in the accuracy shooting this time around, the return of the Styrofoam plates. Yes, we'll see messes in the crease, Ron," Marek said.

The 2022 NHL All-Star Skills Competition will get underway on Friday, February 4th at 7pm ET, while the 3-on-3 divisional tournament will take place on Saturday, February 5th at 3pm ET. Both events will be shown nationally on ABC and ESPN in the United States, as well as CBC and Sportsnet in Canada.
