This summer, the hockey community was rocked when it was confirmed that former NHLer Jimmy Hayes had passed away at just 31 years old.

Though he played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Florida Panthers and New Jersey Devils, the highlight of his career was being able to play two seasons with his hometown Boston Bruins. According to his brother Kevin, who plays for the Philadelphia Flyers, the Bruins organization has been "amazing" during his family's time of mourning. Speaking with ESPN in a pregame interview, Kevin said that Brad Marchand has made time to play street hockey with his brother's son, Beau, and has also made an effort to spend time in Dorchester with Hayes' family and friends.

While this is still a very tragic story, it is heartwarming to hear about how tight-knit the hockey community is. Marchand in particular, who is often despised by fans for on-ice antics, has proven with many off ice displays, including this, that he isn't the villain he at times can appear to be during games. It is great to see that he and the Bruins organization are doing everything they can to help the Hayes family during this extremely tough time.
