The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced on Monday afternoon that they've suspended Montreal Canadiens defenceman Chris Wideman one game for head-butting Boston Bruins forward Erik Haula.

The incident occurred near the seven-minute mark of the third period on Wednesday night's game between the Bruins and Canadiens. During a post-whistle scrum, Haula grabbed Wideman to which Wideman then head-butted him. Both players received two-minutes for roughing, while Wideman received an additional two-minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Wideman, 32, has appeared in 23 games this season for the Canadiens, recording nine points (two goals, seven assists), 26 penalty minutes and is a minus-seven.

The St. Louis, Missouri native will miss Thursday night's game against the Chicago Blackhawks and will be eligible to return to the lineup on Monday, January 17th against the Arizona Coyotes.
