When the NHL announced weeks ago that they would no longer be sending their players to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijijng, there was some speculation that individual players would attempt to go regardless. However, it appears that will no longer be the case.

The IIHF announced on Thursday that NHL players will not be able to participate in the upcoming Olympics due to the NHL pulling out. As reported by TSN's Pierre LeBrun, this was also the case in 2018, as the NHL did not attend that event either.

Not participating in the Olympics for a second straight time is disappointing to hockey fans all around the world, but even more so to the NHL hopefuls. Many have voiced their displeasure with the leagues decision, appearing to be wanting to attend regardless of any potential COVID protocols. Nonetheless, we will not see any NHL players competing in the Olympics until 2026 at the earliest.
