Due to reports in the last couple of months regarding the team's business handlings, the Arizona Coyotes proposal for an arena in Tempe may not get the green light, according to Craig Morgan of GoPHX.com.

Sources have told Morgan that the Coyotes currently do not have the amount of votes needed at Tempe City Council for the proposal to go through. There are three votes for yes, two votes for no and two votes that are undecided but leaning towards no.

A big reason for the lack of support from Tempe City Council is due to the team's negative news stories in the last couple of months including one that stated that they were behind in payments to the city of Glendale. Glendale city manager Kevin Phelps sent a letter to the team in early-December that they owed $1.3 million US in taxes, including $250,000 to the city. Those payments have since been made to the city of Glendale.

"The Coyotes certainly aren't doing themselves any favors with the negative news stories," one source told Morgan. "I would imagine if another negative story comes up on (owner Alex) Meruelo or the organization or their business practices, it probably will die. Those stories hurt tremendously."

Tempe City Council is set to meet again on Thursday, January 13th.
