Two players have been handed suspensions after another horribly racist gesture in the world of professional hockey. As you may recall, black hockey player Jalen Smereck was subjected to a racist taunt in the Ukrainian Hockey League back in September. Andrei Deniskin pretended to peel and eat a banana in front of him. He was suspended for 13 games, while Smereck left the UHL completely. Now, it's happened again.

At a game in the Austria-based ICE Hockey League, HK Olimpija Ljubljana's Tadej Čimžar imitated a monkey in front of former NHL defenceman Derek Joslin.

Cimzar's teammate Miha Zajc was also involved in making inappropriate gestures as both have been suspended for 10 games and fined 3000 Euros, or around $3500 USD.

Joslin played 116 games in the NHL with the San Jose Sharks, Carolina Hurricanes and Vancouver Canucks. The 34-year-old was a fifth round draft pick of the Sharks back in 2005.

"I have never seen that before in my career. It's absolutely sad - especially because Ljubljana claimed after the game that it wasn't a racist gesture and so far there has been no apology for it," said Joslin. "But there are several players on my team who have 100 percent confirmed to me that it was actually a racist gesture. I rely on the league to take this offensive behavior seriously, act accordingly, hold people accountable and punish those involved accordingly."
