With COVID-19 restrictions beginning to ramp up in many provinces across the country, some Canadian teams are asking the NHL to move their upcoming home games to later in the season according to TSN's Gord Miller.

"Hearing that with provincial health officials reducing capacities in arenas (ON 1,000, AB/BC 50%, MB 250 and QC likely to announce reductions later today) Canadian based NHL teams are asking the league to shift their home dates to later in the season." Miller said in a tweet on Thursday.

Alberta is at 50% capacity in large venues, Quebec is not allowing any fans in for games at the Bell Centre for much of January, and Manitoba is restricting capacity to 250 at Canadian Life Centre in Winnipeg, although the Jets said they will play without fans until January 11th or whenever those restrictions are up.

Additionally, the Ontario government announced on Thursday that large venues such are arenas and concert halls will only be allowed to have 1,000 people or 50% capacity, whichever is less. That means if the Maple Leafs or Senators hold home games, they would be down to only 1,000 fans in attendance.

In other related news, the National Hockey League has announced that Sunday's game between the Dallas Stars and Arizona Coyotes has been postponed. This is because, as of Wednesday night, the Stars have eleven players in the league's COVID-19 protocol.

A make-up date for that game will be announced at some point in the near future.

Dallas is now scheduled to play their next game on Thursday, January 6th against Florida, while Arizona will be in action on Tuesday, January 4th against the Winnipeg Jets.
