A pretty cool story for 19-year-old Brady Devries. Devries returned home to Rapid City over the Holidays and was asked to step in as goaltender for the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies while they were in his hometown of Rapid City, South Dakota to take on the Rush Wednesday night. Devries, whose highest level of hockey before this was with the amateur team Rushmore Thunder, not only took the opportunity, he ended up being the starter and getting the win.

"I don't even know. I think I was still in shock that I was there. I didn't feel anything," Devries told the Rapid City Journal.

In total, Devries turned away 18 shots as the Grizzlies defeated the Rush 4-3 in overtime.

"It's always good to beat your hometown team, I guess. It's a crazy feeling," Devries said. "You never think that it's going to happen, and then it does."

"I'll tell you right now, I tip my hat to the kid who played tonight. He played a heck of a game," said Rush head coach Scott Burt. "I was embarrassed for our group, but happy for the kid on the other end."

Devries said he had to use a bunch of new equipment for the game because his goalie gear is in Arizona. The goaltending coach for Rapid City lent him a helmet he could use. The two teams meet up again on New Year's Eve. It's not clear at this time if Devries will be needed again.
