The International Ice Hockey Federation's decision to cancel the World Women's U18 Championship that was set to take place in Sweden in January has ruffled a lot of feathers. Now, an organization in Canada has stepped up with an offer to host the tournament, promising that anyone taking part would be kept safe.

"OWHA (Ontario Women's Hockey Association) would be pleased to step up to host the U18 Women's World Championship to ensure the players are supported," said the organization on Twitter. "We commit to working with @IIHFHockey @HockeyCanada and Federations on timing and safety."

Many are unhappy that the tournament wasn't even postponed, but flat out cancelled for the second year in row, despite the fact that the Men's U18 was held in Texas in August and the World Juniors are happening this week in Edmonton. The decision by the IIHF to cancel the Women's Tournament appears to be based more on revenue than safety for players.

There is no World Juniors for Women's Hockey. Other than the Women's World Championship, the U18 tournament would be the most prestigious annual one for female players.
