This year's Spengler Cup has reportedly been cancelled after a number of positive tests for COVID-19 among the host team. Swiss Hockey News is reporting that 17 players with HC Davos have tested positive for COVID.

The first game was set to take place on December 26th between Slovan Bratislava and HC Frolunda. However, Slovak hockey insider Tomáš Prokop is reporting that Bratislava did not travel to Switzerland after learning of the positive cases within HC Davos.

"The @hcslovanba hockey players didn't fly to Switzerland. Spengler Cup organizers cancelled," said Prokop on Twitter. "The oldest hockey tournament in the world will not take place. The reason is apparently due to multiple positive cases in one of the teams."

While there's been no official announcement from the tournament's organizers, this is what shows on their official website.

Team Canada had withdrawn from the tournament about a week ago along with two others. However, organizers at that time had made the decision to go ahead with the tournament. This now marks the second year in a row that the Spengler Cup has been derailed by COVID.
