The National Hockey League announced on Sunday that they've decided to shutdown Both the Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens until after the Christmas break.

As of Saturday night, the Red Wings had a total of four players in the NHL's COVID-19 protocol. Those players are, Filip Zadina, Givani Smith, Carter Rowney, and Alex Nedeljkovic. Head coach Jeff Blashill and Assistant Coach Alex Tanguay were also placed in the league's protocol.

For the Habs, Artturi Lehkonen is in COVID protocol. Brenden Gallagher and Sami Niku were added earlier on. The Canadiens have a total of 15 players on their injured list in a season where it seems like every member of the team has spent time there at some point.

"A decision on when the Red Wings' training facilities will re-open will be made by the League and the NHLPA in the coming days. The League is in the process of reviewing and revising the Red Wings' regular season schedule. Red Wings' postponed games include, tomorrow vs. Colorado (previously postponed) plus Thursday's game at Minnesota."

Should the Red Wings be cleared to re-open their facilities within this week, their next scheduled game is Monday, December 27th against their Original Six rivals, the New York Rangers.

As for Montreal, it has suspended all team activities and shut the Bell Centre down completely until at least December 26th. The team's next game is scheduled for December 28th at Amalie Arena against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Cross-border travel will need to be resumed by the NHL for that to take place.
