International events are in full swing in the hockey world, but the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreck havoc on sporting events and games due to the rise of the Omicron variant. According to TSN's Darren Dreger, Hockey Canada is considering pulling out of the upcoming Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland.

"Amid concern for the health and safety of all involved, it's believed @HockeyCanada is considering withdrawing from the upcoming Spengler Cup," Dreger said in a tweet on Sunday.

Team Canada is scheduled to play Czech league club, Sparta Prague, on December 26th. If they lose that game, then they would play HC Davos, the hosts, on December 27th, or if they defeat Sparta Prague they'll face HC Davos on December 28th.

It's unclear who would replace Team Canada if they do decide to withdraw from the prestigious tournament, but with a week to go until puck drop, the most logical choice would be a team in Switzerland's top division, the National League.
