During the intermission of Friday's telecast on ESPN, former NHL head coach John Tortorella commented on the alley-oop play between Anaheim Ducks teammates Trevor Zegras and Sonny Milano. Tortorella said that he doesn't believe that the play is good for hockey.

He started off by saying, "It's tremendously skilled. For Sonny Milano to yell 'Michigan' in the middle of the play, in a game, is skill. That's a skill play."

Tortorella went on to add, "My position though is, is it good for the game? I hear Ray say 'all the kids are doing it now' in practices and stuff like that. I'm not so sure. And again, I'm not trying to be a fool here, but I'm just not so sure it's great for the game. If you did that back in 2000, late 90s, 2000s, you'd get your head taken off."

"It's cool. It's cool to watch, and all that, but I'm not so sure it's good for the game, and I stand by that."

Whether or not Tortorella likes the play, or similar plays in hockey, they're going to happen. The younger players coming in now are more skilled than ever, and are willing to try and execute plays like the one Zegras and Milano did earlier this week. It draws attention to the NHL and hockey in general. So it's safe to say that Tortorella is in the minority of people who don't want to see this stuff in the game.
