The Montreal Canadiens announced earlier this week that they would delay the hiring of a General Manager until after Christmas, with President of Hockey Ops Jeff Gorton running things until a decision is made.

During the most recent edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Elliotte Friedman named agent Kent Hughes as someone who Montreal could consider as a prime candidate for the spot.

If Hughes' name isn't a familiar one, it's probably because he isn't a General Manager, but an agent. Some of his high profile clients are Boston's Patrice Bergeron and Pittsburgh's Kris Letang. Hughes has also previously represented Vincent Lecavalier.

Hughes was born in Montreal and does meet the criteria that the Habs are looking for, being bilingual. Of course, we know that Mathieu Darche, Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy are all on the Habs' radar as well, so Hughes will have plenty of competition.
