The first move in the Jeff Gorton era has been made. The Montreal Canadiens announced on Saturday afternoon that they've claimed defenceman Kale Clague off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings.

Clague, 23, was a second round pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Over the past three seasons, Clague has split time between the Kings and their AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign.

The Regina, Saskatchewan native was having a solid start to his 2021-22 campaign before being placed on waivers yesterday at 2pm ET. In eleven games with Los Angeles, Clague had five assists, and in five games for the Ontario Reign he tallied four assists.

It's unclear if Clague will make it to Nashville in time for tonight's game against the Predators, but a debut for the Canadiens could come as early as Tuesday in a Stanley Cup Final rematch against Tampa Bay.
