Some exciting news coming out of New Jersey on Tuesday as the Devils are reportedly preparing to announce a massive extension for 2019 1st overall pick Jack Hughes.

ESPN's Kevin Weekes originally broke the news late Tuesday afternoon, but The Athletic's Corey Masisak and Pierre LeBrun have revealed that the deal is expected to be a max-term deal, 8 years at $8M per season.

Hughes has spent most of the 2021-22 season on the shelf, making his way into just two games and missing the last 17. The eldest of the Hughes brothers has recorded 3 points in his only two appearances this season.

In 119 career NHL games, the 20-year-old has registered 20 goals and 35 assists for 55 points. This production is less than what most were anticipating from Hughes in his rookie and sophomore seasons, but the sky is truly the limit for the highly-skilled pivot.
