Hockey Canada will be naming its camp roster for the 2022 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships on Wednesday, and according to Sportsnet's Jeff Marek, Barrie Colts defenceman Brandt Clarke has been left off the roster.

"World Junior shocker - LA Kings prospect Brandt Clarke will not be invited to Team Canada camp," Marek said in a tweet on Tuesday.

Scott Wheeler of The Athletic added that Clarke's absence on Canada's roster is not due to COVID-19 protocols.

"According to two people close to #LAKings prospect Brandt Clarke, his non-invite to Team Canada's camp is not related to protocols or COVID. They just didn't pick him. Those around him are shocked."

After Marek tweeted that, the Barrie Colts came out with an appreciation post for their captain, likely signalling that they know the news.

Clarke, 18, was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the first round, eighth overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

He appeared at Canada's World Junior showcase this past summer and looked great, and was projected to be a lock on their blueline alongside Montreal Canadiens prospect Kaiden Guhle and Buffalo Sabres prospect Owen Power.

In 17 games this season with Barrie, Clarke leads all OHL defencemen in points with 23 (5 G, 18 A), has four penalty minutes, and is a plus-seven.
