Following his demotion to the American Hockey League, Matt Murray talked with Ian Mendes of The Athletic. Murray told Mendes that he's not happy with the decision but remains upbeat.

"I just had a long chat with Matt Murray in Belleville. He's remarkably upbeat, but one thing is clear to me from our conversation: He wasn't thrilled with the way his demotion was handled by the organization. He says he still hasn't had a conversation with Pierre Dorion," Mendes said in a tweet.

Murray added that he hasn't heard from Senators General Manager Pierre Dorion, saying that he was told on Friday in Anaheim that he was going to be placed on waivers.

"They said was a management decision. That's all I got," Murray said.

The 27-year-old said that he has no clue what the plan is for him going forward with the organization.

"It hasn't been communicated to me what the plan is."

Murray, a native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, was placed on waivers by the Senators on Saturday afternoon, and cleared on Sunday with the team assigning him to their AHL affiliate in Belleville.

In seven games this season, Murray has a record of 0-6-0 with a 3.26 G.A.A., and an .890 save percentage. He has two years remaining on his contract following the 2021-22 season at an AAV of $6.25 million.

Murray could see game action as early as tomorrow night when Belleville travels to Utica, New York to take on the Comets.
