Funeral services were held in Russia Tuesday for 16-year-old Valentin Rodionov, a hockey player who tragically died after collapsing during a game on November 21st.

"It's very hard to say anything right now," said MHC Dynamo GM Mikhail Tyurkin at the service. "The entire Dynamo hockey family has lost a talented, promising, young guy whose life path and path in the sport was just beginning. An irreplaceable loss for all of Valentin's relatives and friends, teammates and pupils of our academy, with whom Valentin passed through the bitterness of defeats and the joy of victories. All club management express their deepest condolences to the family of the defender. We mourn together with you."

Rodionov's head coach Yaroslav Lyuzenkov also spoke highly of the young man.

"Valentin is a kind, helpful, always smiling guy. I have never seen him sullen. Very well-mannered, thanks to his parents. It's a great loss for everyone."

Rodionov reportedly collapsed on the bench following a hit into the boards during the game. He was rushed to hospital and required surgery for brain swelling and a contusion. He died earlier this week despite doctor's best efforts to save his life.
