A crosscheck to the face that broke the jaw of Garrett Roe of the ZSC Lions has landed former NHLer Mark Barberio a big suspension and fine. Barberio, who now plays for Lausanne HC of the Swiss National League, has been given a suspension of eight games. He'll also have to pay a fine of 11,700 Swiss Francs, which is equal to around $12,500 USD. That's more than double most fines given out by the NHL.

Roe, one of the Lions best players, would end up requiring lengthy surgery on his jaw following the hit and is expected to be out of action for quite some time. You can view the hit below. The last couple of seconds of the video shows the best angle. Barberio received just a two minute penalty during the game.

Barberio was actually given five games by the league, but will serve an extra three as a repeat offender. He's been in the National League for two seasons and has already been sanctioned eight times, including four suspensions. The Lions recently released a video showing four incidents where Barberio has targeted their top players. You can see that below:

Barberio, 31, played 272 games in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche.
