Earlier this week, ESPN's John Tortorella grabbed headlines when he said Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid needs to «just shut up,» and not talk about the lack of penalties he is drawing.

While some agreed with Torts' comments, many quickly jumped to the defence of McDavid, a player who is very rarely arguing with on ice officials and has never to this writer's knowledge criticized referees to media. He did however take a shot at Tortorella on Thursday morning when asked about his frustration level given the lack of calls going his way.

«Guess I just gotta shut up about it,» McDavid said.

It is pretty rare to see something like this out of McDavid, who throughout his career has been known to be quite robotic in media availabilities. Perhaps this is the beginning of him developing more of a personality towards the media and maybe in the near future starting to voice his opinion on the lack of penalties that get drawn on him. It will be interesting to see if Tortorella chooses to respond to this comment in the upcoming days.
