As everyone knows by now, Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price was in the NHL's Player Assistance Program last month and exited last weekend. What most people forget is that prior to Price entering the program, he was still recovering from a knee injury that required surgery this off-season, which continues to keep him out of Montreal's lineup.

According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, Price is doing well after working out this past week and could return to the ice very soon.

"Carey Price knee is responding well after working out and simulating some goalie movement in the gym. It's possible he'll start skating in the next few days," Lavoie said.

Montreal could desperately use Carey Price as soon as possible, but they aren't going to rush him. Jake Allen has made the most starts out of any netminder in the NHL with 14, but was hurt during Saturday night's contest against the Detroit Red Wings.

Allen's status is up in the air right now, so the Canadiens will likely go into Sunday night's tilt against their archrivals, Boston, with a goaltending tandem of Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau, the latter of whom was called up from Laval last night.

The path forward for Price is unclear. He'll continue rehabbing his knee, and eventually get back to practicing with the team at some point in the next few weeks. As for game action, I personally wouldn't expect to see him back between the pipes for the Canadiens before the end of November, and a conditioning stint in Laval might be needed before he returns.
