Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews attempting to defend the character of Bowman, MacIsaac
The Kyle Beach saga is just beginning, as Chicago Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman and Senior VP Al MacIsaac, along with other executives from the 2010 team have been relieved of their duties and dismissed/resigned.
On Wednesday, Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton revealed that he was conflicted over how to feel about Bowman's departure, as Bowman was a mentor to the young coach.
While Colliton's moral compass eventually led him in the right direction of not condoning the things that were revealed in the official release, team captain Jonathan Toews seems far less aware of the gravity of the situation, appearing to come to the defense of Bowman and MacIsaac, despite their clear involvement in the act covering up or burying an alleged sexual misconduct.
"Stan [Bowman] and Al [MacIsaac] ... they're not directly complicit in the activities that happened. It's not up to me to comment on whether they would like to deal with it differently or not. ... I have a lot of respect for them as people. They're good people."
Maybe Toews' heart is in the right place in wanting to support two people who he has grown close to, but you also cannot publicly dismiss the things they are guilty of or involved in.
While stating that Bowman and MacIsaac are not complicit in the misconduct itself may be correct, but unfortunately, it's not that simple. They were complicit in that they didn't do right by a 20-year-old player who had been victimized by a member of their coaching staff.
This is certainly not a good look for the Blackhawks captain.
