In what was an emotional 25-minute interview with TSN, former 11th overall pick Kyle Beach came forward as the victim in the Chicago Blackhawks sexual assault scandal. You can read details on his interview here. In the meantime, the minute the interview was over, the Chicago Blackhawks released a statement on the team's social media accounts. Here it is in full:

I don't often offer opinion here, but this statement seems weak at best, and utterly tone deaf at worst. Beach came forward with these allegations over 10 years ago and not a thing was done until a lawsuit was filed in 2020. For the Blackhawks to even mention "winning championships" in this statement regarding Beach seems crass and uncaring. The recently released independent investigation into Beach's allegations specifically mentions that the team seemed more concerned about winning a Stanley Cup than the life of a young man who was assaulted by a staff member. Many responders brought this up.

To be honest, perhaps the Blackhawks would have been better off just sitting this one out completely.

It's worth noting that Beach brought up former Blackhawks' Joel Quenneville's continued insistence that he knew nothing of the allegations, saying he simply can't believe Quenneville is still saying this despite the fact that meetings took place in his office after Beach came forward. Quenneville is behind the bench for the Florida Panthers tonight in the team's game against the Boston Bruins. It could end up being one of his last in the NHL. He is set to meet with Gary Bettman, the commissioner of the NHL, in New York tomorrow.
