While many had expected Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas and head coach Sheldon Keefe to be on thin ice heading into this season, that does not seem to be the case in MLSE's eyes, as they have approved a multi-year extension for the young NHL coach on Thursday.

Keefe was entering the final year of his current deal with the Leafs, but with a two-year extension now in place, the 41-year-old is now locked up through 2023-24, which would indicate the faith that the organization has in the man who owns the best points percentage in the team's history.

After being hired as Mike Babcock's replacement in 2019-20, Keefe has been able to compile a 62-29-12 record in Toronto, which is a very promising start to his NHL coaching career.

Prior to his time with the Leafs, the former NHLer coached the Toronto Marlies to an AHL Championship, winning the Calder Cup back in 2017-2018 with then Marlies GM Kyle Dubas.

Leafs fans who might be hoping that they can replicate that success at the NHL level should be encouraged by Keefe early results with the team.

Keefe is now immersed in his first full training camp and preseason with the team, and has a coaching staff comprised of his own hires to help him achieve the ultimate goal - which is to bring a Stanley Cup to Toronto.
