Earlier this week, the National Hockey League announced that they were going to crackdown on cross-checking after it became a huge talking point during the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The crackdown will focus on cross-checks that happen around the boards, in the open ice, and in front of the net. As a result, more goals could be scored if defencemen are unable to move players from in front of their net.

Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone discussed the upcoming crackdown with ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, saying that cross-checking is part of hockey.

"Cross-checking has become almost natural in the game. I cross-check. I get cross-checked. That's just how it's been," Stone said. "But if they're trying to get rid of injuries, I can understand why they're doing it. It's a sensitive area. In the playoffs especially, it can get a little out of control."

When told that cross-checks could result in suspensions this coming season, Stone added, "I don't know if it's that dangerous. There are definitely other things (I'd) like to see them crack down on as far as supplemental discipline, compared to cross-checking."
