After a disappointing first season as an Ottawa Senator, goaltender Matt Murray is focused on returning to the goaltender he was with the Pittsburgh Penguins early in his career.

Murray, 27, told Ottawa reports on Thursday that he added roughly 13 pounds over the offseason. The two time Stanley Cup winner said that Senators management and coaching staff wanted him to come back heavier, and he was able to do so by eating a ton of calories and working out often. He also mentioned that it's the heaviest he has ever been, and that he feels great.

Hopefully for the Senators organization and its fans, it means he can get his playing career back on track. He had his worst season to date behind a young and learning roster, posting a cringeworthy 3.38 goals-against average and a .893 save percentage. He will need to play much better in 2021-22 to justify the four-year, $25 million contract the Sens gave him last offseason.
