The St. Louis Blues announced on Friday that they've inked veteran forwards James Neal and Michael Frolik to professional tryout contracts. The pair will join the Blues when they open up camp next week.

Neal, 34, has spent the last two seasons with the Edmonton Oilers. In 29 regular season games, the Whitby, Ontario native put up ten points (five goals, five assists), 11 penalty minutes, and was a -2. Following the conclusion of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Oilers announced that they were buying out the remaining two years of his contract, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Frolik, 33, signed a one-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens prior to the start of the 2020-21 season. It didn't work out as Frolik expected as he spent the majority of the season in the press box either as a healthy scratch or on the Canadiens' taxi squad. The Kladno, Czech Republic native had no points and no penalty minutes in eight games with the Habs.

In other PTO news, the New Jersey Devils announced that they've invited former Toronto Maple Leafs first rounder Frederik Gauthier to training camp next week.

After five seasons in the Maple Leafs organization, Gauthier signed with the Arizona Coyotes a few days before the 2020-21 season began. He only appeared in two games with the Yotes and spent the majority of the year with their AHL affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners.
