During the NHL's media tour stop in Chicago, Illinois, Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly gave an update on the league's COVID-19 vaccination rates. Daly said that they expect around 98% of players to be fully vaccinated by the time the regular season begins on October 12th.

"At #NHL Player Media Tour in Chicago, deputy commissioner Bill Daly tells @DailyFaceoffthe league is projecting 98% of players will be fully vaccinated prior to start of the season. Expectation is 10-15 total players will be unvaccinated - subject to more stringent protocols," Frank Seravalli said in a tweet on Thursday morning.

Those 10-15 players who will be unvaccinated Seravalli mentioned will have to go through daily COVID-19 testing, while vaccinated players only have to be tested every 72-hours. When the teams are on the road, unvaccinated players will have to stay in the team hotel when they're not at the practice facility or arena. They also won't be allowed to have anyone in their hotel room but themselves.

Currently, one team has announced they have 100% of their players fully vaccinated, that team being the Carolina Hurricanes.

Due to not getting COVID-19 vaccinations, Columbus Blue Jackets assistant coach Sylvain Lefebvre was fired, and San Jose Sharks associate coach Rocky Thompson stepped down from his role.
