Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid is echoing sentiments his general manager (GM) Ken Holland made on Tuesday afternoon, in which he said the team needs to take the next step this upcoming season.

McDavid, despite being just 24 years old, is not shy to admit he wants to start having playoff success, and feels some urgency.

«Definitely thinking the time is now,» McDavid said. «(I'm) 24 years old, Darnell (Nurse) and Leon (Draisaitl) are 25, 26, and Ryan (Nugent-Hopkins is) 28, so the old excuse (that) we're young guys is no longer.»

While some questioned a few of the offseason moves Holland did, McDavid is not one of them. The Oilers captain credited his GM with the transactions he made and believes they put his team in a good position for success.

«Kenny's done his job, gone out, and gotten pieces and added some things it's on us now to put the thing together,» McDavid said. «More veteran guys some older voices, some guys that have been around and played in some big scenarios and games, and I just noticed that right off the top.»

You have to admire the accountability from McDavid here, though the fact is he can only do so much. He is undoubtedly the best player in the NHL, proven by his 105 points in 56 games last season, and needs his teammates to pull their weight if they are going to have success. This is going to be a huge year for them, and there could be some massive changes if they aren't able to find playoff success.
