Jonathan Drouin, who sat out most of last season for undisclosed reasons, was set to do a big one-on-one interview with Chantal Machabée of RDS on Monday. Many wondered if we might actually hear from Drouin himself why he decided to leave the Montreal Canadiens for personal reasons during the 2020-21 season. However, it appears we won't get that chance.

The story that announced the interview has been removed from RDS's website. Rumours really started to fly when former player agent and radio analyst David Ettedgui released a projected lineup for the Montreal Canadiens that did not include Drouin. Ettedgui stated there was information he could not divulge, leading many to believe a trade was coming or Drouin may be sitting out again despite saying he would be ready to do at the start of the 2021-22 season. As for Machabee, she replied to a comment on Twitter that wondered whether there was any connection between the cancelled interview and a possible trade/another personal leave saying "No link!!! I will explain the situation soon!"

Translation: @EttedguiDavid did not put Drouin in his lineup and indicated there is information he cannot divulge, the page of Drouin's interview with @ChantalMachabee scheduled for next Monday has gone away, I'm starting to wonder if there's a connection between the two.

Machabee: "No link!!! I will explain the situation soon!"

Whatever the case, it looks like we'll have to wait longer to hear Drouin's side of the story, if we ever get it at all. There's been plenty of speculation that Drouin took time away to deal with mental health issues and the pressure of playing for his hometown team in a hockey-crazed market. That may be correct, but it has never been confirmed by Drouin himself or anyone close to him.
