Former Montreal Canadiens forward Nikita Scherbak is heading to Slovakia and has signed a one-year contract with HC '05 Banska Bystrica of the Slovak Extraliga.

"As the new season slowly approaches, we tried to increase the competition in the team and we were looking for reinforcements on the wing. Nikita had opportunities in North America, but since he is considered a veteran with 200 games in the AHL, he was in a difficult position. We therefore took this opportunity. It is a well-known name in the hockey community, we promise a lot from it and we are glad that he chose Banská Bystrica to continue his career and open his way in Europe," says Július Koval, sports manager of HC ´05 Banská Bystrica.

Scherbak, 25, was selected by the Canadiens in the first round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The Moscow, Russia appeared in 37 games between Montreal and Los Angeles where he tallied eight points (six goals, two assists), ten penalty minutes and was a -8.
