Much has been made of the offer sheet the Carolina Hurricanes gave to former Montreal Canadien forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi last week, as it was clear to most that it was a revenge tactic after the Habs tried to do the same thing with Sebastian Aho two years prior.

Despite it being quite obvious what the Hurricanes motive here was, however, their owner, Tom Dundon, denies that it was revenge related.

«If it hadn't happened to us it probably wouldn't have happened to them, but (revenge) isn't the reason we did it,» Dundon said while appearing on Sportsnet 590 THE FAN on Tuesday afternoon. «I don't think we would use offer sheets as a normal strategy but given the circumstance with what happened to us with this team (Aho) it made it something we could consider. But the idea we would do it for revenge or to get even is silly. We just want to win.»

Regardless of your thoughts on Dundon, it is very hard to believe this statement, especially given the fact they even put a $20 signing bonus on the offer sheet which is the number Aho wears. While they were able to get Kotkaniemi, it is tough to say who won this situation given the fact that the Canes now have a forward on their payroll who has hit 30 points just once at a cap hit of $6.1 million. It will be interesting to see what kind of season he is able to put together in Raleigh.
