Earlier this summer, the NHL announced it's special events calendar for the 2021-22 season. It included three outdoor games, the first being the Winter Classic on January 1st between the Blues and Wild in Minnesota. The second game is the Stadium Series, which will be played on February 26th 2022 in Nashville between the Predators and Lightning.

The NHL also announced that it intends to hold a Heritage Classic in Canada at some point during the 2021-22 season. That Heritage Classic game will reportedly be played in Hamilton, Ontario at Tim Horton's Field on March 12th 2022 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres, according to Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun and Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News.

"The teams are slated to play a matinee that day in KeyBank Center, but the game was notably absent from the Sabres' two half-season ticket options unveiled last week. Each plan included one preseason game and 20 regular season games; the regular season, of course, consists of 41 home games and not 40," Harrington said on Sunday.

Buffalo has appeared in two outdoor games, the 2008 Winter Classic and 2018 Winter Classic. Toronto has played in three outdoor games, the 2014 Winter Classic, 2017 Centennial Classic, and the 2018 Stadium Series.
