On Saturday afternoon, the Carolina Hurricanes tendered an offer sheet to restricted free agent forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi. The contract is for one-year and is worth $6.1 million.

The offer sheet comes two years after the Canadiens tendered one to Huricanes forward Sebastian Aho, so this is more than likely an act of revenge from Carolina general manager Don Waddell and owner Tom Dundon. But this isn't the Hurricanes' first attempt at trying to get Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, Carolina tried to acquire Kotkaniemi's rights from the Canadiens this past week but couldn't come to an agreement with Montreal.

"Hurricanes did try to trade for Kotkaniemi instead over the past several days but nothing that came close to making the Habs interested. So Dundon gets his offer sheet revenge." LeBrun said in a tweet.

The Canadiens now have seven days to match Carolina's offer or else the Hurricanes will compensate them with a pair of draft picks (first + third).
