Shortly after the Carolina Hurricanes announced that they had signed RFA Andrei Svechnikov to an 8-year, $62M contract, the Philadelphia Flyers have now announced that they have inked pending UFA Sean Couturier to an identical extension.

Couturier, 28, is set to enter the final year of his 6-year, $26M deal this season, which carries a cap hit of $4.33M. His new deal will begin at the start of the 2022-23 season and will carry a $7.75M cap hit.

Couturier has long been considered one of the better two-way centermen in the National Hockey League and his new contract certainly reflects the value that he has in the eyes of the Flyers' management group.

The 692-game NHL veteran has amassed 174 goals and 443 points over that span, putting up nearly a point-per-game with the Flyers last season with 41 points in 45 games in what was otherwise a disappointing season for the club.

Couturier was drafted in the first round by the Flyers back in 2011 with the 8th overall pick.
