Some interesting news out of North Carolina has the Hurricanes showing a potential interest in a pair of defensemen, whether or not Dougie Hamilton elects to re-up in Raleigh.

Adam Gold, host of The Adam Gold Show, stated on Thursday that the Canes have their eye on new pending UFA Ryan Suter, after he and fellow 36-year-old Zach Parise were bought out by the Minnesota Wild earlier this week. Obviously, the potential cost will be a huge factor here.

In addition, Gold stated that the Hurricanes could also have interest in another potential buy-out target, Rangers defenseman Tony DeAngelo. While most seem to view DeAngelo as persona non grata due to his off-ice antics, political stance and penchant for going overboard when running his mouth on social media, if the Canes are willing to overlook his past indiscretions and work with him to rehabilitate himself and his image, he has the on-ice skills to be able to help a team win. Personally, I wouldn't touch him with a ten-foot pole if I'm Carolina.

That wasn't the only bit of news Gold had dropped on Thursday, as he had also confirmed that the Hurricanes were hard at work, negotiating deals with forward Warren Foegele and goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic - though it is believed that the latter has an ask that is about $2M-$3M per season higher than what the Hurricanes wish to pay. No mention of actual cap dollars or term there.

While the Canes' top priority remains trying to get a Hamilton extension done, striking a deal with Nedeljkovic is not far behind. The Canes could also pivot back to pending UFA Petr Mrazek if they can't get Nedeljkovic done soon.
