Many members of the hockey community have called on the NHL to rename the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy to memorialize Johnny Gaudreau.

With the massive tragedy that took the lives of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, people have been thinking about ways to honor them and preserve their legacies.
An interesting proposition emerged on X. Indeed, David Alter shared his thoughts on how the NHL should rename the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy after Johnny Gaudreau.
Whenever changes are proposed about such things, they aren't often seriously considered. However, this time, it could be different.
The Gaudreau tragedy took everyone off guard, and most hockey fans were touched by what happened.
In addition, the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy doesn't get as much respect as it used to. After seeing members of the media vote for the winner by only looking at the number of penalties, players don't really care about this award.
Also, Gaudreau only won one trophy in his career, and it was this one. Back in 2017, he led the Calgary Flames in points and only had two minor penalties during the season.
Calling it the Johnny Gaudreau Trophy would mean something to players and would cement Gaudreau's legacy in the NHL.
